Asian Spoken Word Night x Unwanted Words

What a night this was! ✨

On 16 February 2024, De Doelen Studios and SPACE, the youth department of Dona Daria, joined forces to give spoken word and poetry performers with Asian roots a platform to shine and share their artistry with the world.

During this first edition, the central theme was: Lunar New Year 🥮🧨

Many Asian cultures celebrate the new year based on the lunar calendar. This year, Lunar New Year was celebrated in Rotterdam from February 10 to 18. Within SPACE’s Young Asian Leaders Community, individuals with Asian heritage come together to share their experiences and insights. This community serves as a platform for open dialogue and mutual support, fostering connections through training sessions, events, and knowledge exchange. One such event, the Asian Spoken Word Night, stood as a touching showcase of creative expression and collective reflection within the community.

The line-up, curated by Unwanted Words, consisted of host and performer Jowi (@mojowi), performers Elena Sichrovsky and Kevin Groen (Ahn Kwang Soo), and was followed by an open mic. 🎤
